Head of Finance Shared Services - Bournemouth

My client is a world leader in their field, a specialist engineering business with a renowned brand and reputation. This FTSE 250 business is now seeking to recruit a Head of Finance for their Shared Services operation.

Supporting two business units within the UK, this role will manage a small team directly (in total a team of 10) and take responsibility for all Accounting and Legal requirements and deadlines.

The role will be key in driving improvement within Finance Shared Services, creating effective partnerships and the provision of accounting oversight and support to the UK businesses.

In leading the UK Finance Shared Services department, key responsibilities include:

  • Annual/Half Year IFRS statutory accounts for Group reporting
  • Submission of financial 5 year plan data to Group
  • Provision of reports to Division for Monthly / Quarterly reviews
  • Preparation of UK statutory accounts, tax returns, VAT and Intrastats reporting, ensuring financial reporting and records are maintained in accordance with relevant legislation and professional standards
  • Responsible for the controls and financial processes for the UK Divisions
  • Responsible for Statutory Accounts Review; review technical disclosures and ensure correct accounting within statutory accounts and that numbers are internally consistent and make sense from year to year
  • Key Finance point of contact for Division (UK) internal and external audit activities and responsible for ensuring matters are dealt with timely and efficiently
  • Provide and control all accounting advice and research accounting issues for the company in general and for bids and acquisitions
  • Oversee, coordinate and project own the new finance system implementation, including tender review, user acceptance testing, training and support as required
  • Oversee, coordinate and project own policy and procedure review to standardise across the Division
  • As change manager drive process improvement and efficiency throughout the organisation and identify and analyse key business cost drivers and pursue cost savings
  • Integral role in month end review process specifically with regard to balance sheet variance analysis and commentary
  • Attend and present at the monthly Finance meeting on specific month end close issues and balance sheet reviews
  • Responsible for the management, development and welfare of team members covering morale, recruitment, selection, performance management, professional development and career progression

The candidate:

The ideal candidate will be fully qualified with experience of working within a sizeable organisation, ideally within engineering, manufacturing or defence sectors. Experience of working in a contracts / bids environment is of distinct preference.

Technically we are looking for someone who has a strong background within Financial Accounting (UK GAAP and IFRS) with experience of UK Corporation Tax, VAT and PAYE.

In conjunction candidates should offer proven analytical, project management, and leadership skills.

First class interpersonal, communication and people development skills are also a must as is a strong work ethic, a proactive and driven approach and high levels of integrity.
