Overview:

This individual will be primarily responsible for taking an active and lead role in supporting Discovery Networks Europe’s (DNE) Revenue accounting business for South Region, month-end close, preparing related reporting and analysis to include Eurosport with regards to US GAAP revenue accounting. Supporting and defining DNE process and process improvement initiatives. You will work and collaborate as a team member, liaise with corporate and regional Finance, FP&A, Senior Management and other key stakeholders.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Planning and delivery of month/quarter end reporting, preparation of accounts in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring compliance and integrity with US GAAP regulations and corporate accounting policies. This will include recording of revenue, contra revenue, deferred revenue, bad debt reserves, transactions in multiple currencies and complex billing, accounting, and reporting issues.
  • Prepare, post and ensure all documentation for G/L journal entries meets company policy and SOX compliance and is properly maintained and logically organized.
  • Prepare South Affiliate flux that explains month on month (M-o-M) revenue variances and   Ad Sales variances to forecast, to be sent to the business Senior Management and other key stakeholders.
  • Perform and prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure G/L information is accurate, consistent, traceable, auditable and reviewed. Ensure all entries and balances are justifiable.
  • Lead, participate and document minutes for periodic meetings including, but not limited to, pre-close, debt dashboard, expired agreements meetings & quarterly legal Ad Sales. Meetings are attended by Senior Management and other key stakeholders.
  • Assist in preparing and compiling the monthly close accounting report (MCAR), which shows the M-o-M and actual to forecast variance commentary, AR balance analysis and any post close or material item to bring to the attention of Senior Management.
  • Assist with internal and external audit work at half year and year end, including coordinating the Revenue Accounting request list and SOX testing with the auditors.
  • Perform monthly SOX Control processes as per timetabled deadline and ensure compliance meets DNE minimum control standards.
  • Perform accounting research and write accounting memos to document unusual and/or significant accounting transactions and company positions.
  • Continuously review all DNE Revenue finance operations processes and procedures. Prepare, edit and update documentation of the accounting and compliance process manual.
  • Learn the functionality of the billing systems, AFS, BTS, Corporate Billing, IBMS, and the revenue process.
  • Understand fundamental tasks of the role to initiate and create process improvements.
  • Partake in special routine projects or duties as assigned on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Effectively and independently manage deadlines and multiple and conflicting priorities.
  • Prepare and assist in compiling the quarterly SEC reporting templates.
  • Full ownership and completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Work closely/collaboratively with Manager and deputize as and when necessary.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  •  ACCA or CIMA qualified preferred with two to three years post qualification experience.
  •  At least five years of accounting and reporting experience.
  •  Understanding of US GAAP and ability to perform technical research.
  •  Experience with enterprise information systems, SAP a strong plus and preferred.
  •  Knowledge of media / entertainment industry a strong plus and preferred.
  •  Superior ability to organize, analyze and concisely present oral and written communication.
  •  Experience with foreign currency transactions a strong plus.
  •  Proficient in MS Office applications, Excel in particular.
