Salary: Competitive

De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally-minded institution with a relentless focus on delivering excellent teaching and learning, high-quality research and a sector-leading student experience.  A culturally rich university with a strong commitment to the public good, it strives to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment where staff and students are able to thrive. The university is a vibrant, multicultural hub of learning, creativity and innovation that never surrenders to convention.

DMU is now seeking to appoint a new Chief Finance Officer (CFO) to provide outstanding commercial and financial leadership across the institution. During a period of unprecedented change for the higher education sector, DMU is operating from a position of strength, having delivered a continuous surplus over the last seven years on a turnover of around £180m. It has also been named one of the 150 best young universities in the world and is one of the Top 10 most popular universities in the UK for home and EU students, as rated by UCAS. DMU has also been shortlisted for three sector (THELMA) awards this year, including one for ‘Outstanding Financial Performance’.

Reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor, the successful candidate will be an exceptional leader with significant strategic and operational experience gained at Board (or equivalent) level. Energetic, innovative and entrepreneurial, they will identify and manage the risk of new commercial opportunities and possess excellent analytical skills and a positive creative instinct to develop solutions and support sustainable growth. An empathy and alignment with the mission and values of DMU will be critical, as will a customer-centric attitude and an ability to engage with a broad range of audiences, both internally and externally.
