Our Client an established accountancy practice in the Preston area are currently recruiting a "Practice Manager" to join their team ASAP

Overview
To aid the completion of client accounts, tax computations and other reports as required to ensure compliance with regulatory authorities. Delegate routine work and manage client portfolio (inflow, outflow and client relationships). Provide completed assignments for Partner 'final meetings' with clients and highlight issues that cannot otherwise be resolved prior to 'final meeting'. Oversee the compliance matters in relation to filing Accounts and Corporation Tax Returns, delegated to other members of the Team, and ensure deadlines are met for clients.

Accounts & Tax

  • Produce final accounts compliant with relevant requirements (Companies Act, SORP, TLL Sole Trader or Partnership Formats, etc.) on IRIS where possible, or other automated method.
  • Produce corporation tax computations as required and/or supporting information for Personal Tax computations ensuring review carried out by Tax Manager where necessary. Consider tax saving initiatives and planning aspects that the client should be aware of.
  • Complete relevant accounts file schedules and accounts support schedules which agree with the accounts presented to Partner / Client.
  • Clear all queries with client with the minimum of disruption where possible and highlight any remaining issues for the Partner meeting with the client, including recommendations and observations. Ensure all files are presented to the Partner for review allowing sufficient time for them to review this prior to their meeting.
  • Draft standard letters and package documents required for sending to client for (a) signing upon completion; (b) returning bound accounts; (c) filing with authorities.
  • Prepare budgets for assignments, and monitor your own WIP and Budgets and alert Partner if possible fee issues. Draft invoices for fees upon completion of key projects, and raise/recommend interim invoices where necessary for longer pieces of work / ongoing services.
  • Ensure that a record is made on the central database of job progress and statutory accounts filed (including client books in / books out) - by communicating movements with checklist manager.

Management

  • Understand the work you are required to undertake and the time budget allocated

  • Allow others to manage their own time by giving sufficient notice of assistance to be requested, or work to be completed.
  • Ensure that all staff supervised by you are clear as to their work and budget requirements.
  • Be patient with staff and ensure that they understand the work that they are asked to carry out.
  • Enable staff to develop and extend their skills through doing new types of work, within the boundaries of their aspirations and goals.
  • Provide positive & construcitve feedback following each piece of work carried out with a view to development.
  • Where clashes arise between two or more pieces of work being required by different managers you must resolve the priority and order of work to be done with the other manager(s) on behalf of the assistant, obtaining the best outcome for the company and client expectations.
  • Assist where necessary with other local staff, reviewing work done for junior staff.

Communication

  • Ensure information is requested and received from clients in a timely manner and make a note of any specific client expectations / requirements.
  • Help obtain 'new client info.' and complete relevant 'acceptance' paperwork for new clients, including money laundering information.
  • Communicate with client via email (put copy on file if important for paper trail), letter or phone to keep the flow of work moving and ensure clients are aware of any hold-ups and deadlines.
  • Communicate with other members of staff / Partners to ensure work or client correspondence is not duplicated. Also read client correspondence to ensure up to date with client background.

Other

  • To assist colleagues with other work required, especially where your skills set / professional training is more advanced and work is not able to be completed by others.
  • Carry out staff appraisals for those you work directly with, if requested.
  • Ensure CPD is kept up to date and necessary institute returns / fee payments are made each year.
  • Assist your colleagues with any work necessary if there is a particular urgency / importance (higher than that for your own current work) if this is conducive to the overall benefit of the company, and carrying out any other task reasonably requested by a Director. Ask for help from others if necessary to ensure deadlines are met.
