Your new role
In summary the Management Accountant is responsible for assisting to manage the financial resources of the Group Companies, through providing support to the Financial Controller. The Management Accountant is also responsible for the ongoing analysis of process constraints; project costing, margin analysis and tracing costs & benefits to underlying activities in order to be able to report accurately on the profitability of the Group. This role is a key part of the finance team responsible for maintaining an efficient and accurate Accounting function. The Management Accountant will report directly to the Financial Controller together with operational reporting lines to Income Stream Managers, Heads of Projects, Head of Resources and Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Overseeing sales ledger and purchase ledger functions.
  • Comparison of actual performance to budget and forecast, with detailed financial analysis of variances and recommendations for performance improvement.
  • Assistance with the preparation of year-end financial packs to audit standard, including the liaison with the Group auditors.
  • Active role in tender preparation process, supporting the operations team with all financial aspects.
  • Assisting with annual budgeting process and rolling quarterly forecasts.
  • Implementation of departmental budgets (including overhead departments) and reporting on actuals and variances.
  • Ongoing management of project costing system across the group, to help improve margins, processes and utilisation reporting.
  • Management and development of the finance team.
  • Ensuring accurate project income and expenditure classification, together with accurate month end reporting in this area.
  • Regular reviews with members of the operations department, to ensure sales forecasts are accurate, costs are controlled and project profitability is reported proactively across the Group and results are frequently challenged.
  • Work closely with the operations department and provide financial and commercial support and training.
  • Ensure that financial controls, policies and procedures are in place across the Group and are actively adhered to.
  • Capital expenditure preparation / review of CAPEX validation of costs and benefits, manage/review subsequent income and costs, post implementation review.
  • Reviewing and reporting on credit control, reporting on concern and taking action to maintain timely recovery of receipts.
  • Short term cashflow forecasting.
  • Producing and submitting quarterly VAT returns.
    • Management, mentoring and supervision of team members.
  • Ad hoc assignments and project work as required by the Financial Controller and Director.


What you'll need to succeed

Qualifications, Education Requirements' & Key Competencies

  • A part/qualified accountant with industry experience;
  • Experience of the management and development of a team;
  • Logical thinking with creative problem-solving ability;
  • Understanding of budget control;
  • Good administration, possesses good organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Attention to detail and possess excellent communication skills;
  • Have a good level of computer literacy
  • Project accounting/analysis is essential;
  • Ability to work under pressure work using your own initiative and as part of a team;
  • Oil and gas experience desirable.
  • Flexible working approach.
