Our client is one of the largest asset managers and a major global investor company. They are seeking a Senior Fund Accountant / Fund Controller to join their PE fund that invests into the shipping sector.
The role will assume responsibility for all management and financial accounting and reporting of the funds’ subsidiaries as well as for the oversight of the investments, and provide financial analysis to non-financial colleagues and manage accountants. The incumbent will report to the Director of Fund Accounting. This is a key hire for the business and the package is reflective of seniority.
Key Responsibilities/Tasks
- Ensure production of timely and accurate standalone and consolidated monthly/quarterly financial reports for all Shipping related SPV (Luxembourg, Cayman, Marshall island) under US GAAP with if required in-depth analysis and commentary, taking full ownership and providing support to junior team members
- Permanently control and ensure that the structuring is adhered to, provide instructions/recommendation to colleagues in other jurisdictions; provide financial analysis and financial planning in support of the company vision and future growth.
- Preparation of ad hoc analysis: Investors percentage ownership through transparent structure, budgets variance analysis, distributable amounts calculations etc. for presentation and recommendation to the Board of Managers
- Review of reporting packages under US GAAP prepared by the internal and/or external accountants. Making sure the accounting packages are correct and provided on time to be included in the consolidation. Review Fleet reports, JV partners report etc.
- Assist with exit planning considerations; Facilitating communication with tax advisors, auditors and joint venture partners
- Prepare accounting treatment memos
- Provide guidance and training to the team members, participate to their development
Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications required for Job:
- Previous experience in a similar position, including experience of providing Financial Control across a group of companies
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience preferably gained within the Shipping sector
- Private Equity (inc Shipping) knowledge and experience
- Sound and up to date knowledge of Lux GAAP, US GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- Knowledge of auditing and practices and principles
- Knowledge of local corporate and VAT taxation requirements
- Knowledge of tax structuring using Luxembourg as investment route
- University degree Accounting or equivalent
- Exceptional computer skills in the operation and functioning of all programs used by the organization, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint; and Yardi (real estate accounting software)
- Fluent in English (additional languages advantageous)
- Conscientious about timeliness of assignments and quality of work
