Castle Accountancy & Finance are delighted to be working with the Dawnay Estate to recruit a Financial Controller to support their team. This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to work within a diverse business situated in a stunning rural North Yorkshire setting. Located just 6 miles from the coast in Scarborough and approximately 45 minutes drive from York; the Estate Office is easily commutable from a range of locations.

About the Client:

The Dawnay Estate is a picturesque family owned Estate comprising of landholdings situated 35 miles apart; The Wykeham Estate near Scarborough and the Danby Estate near Whitby, both in North Yorkshire. The Estate Office is located at Wykeham as is the family home, Wykeham Abbey. The Estate has a diverse portfolio of businesses ranging from property (residential, commercial and agricultural), a 250-pitch caravan (touring) park, horticulture, sporting (shooting and fishing) and farming. Turnover is in the region of £5 million, generated from four Trusts and three companies. The Dawnay Estates employs 40 personnel, of which six are based at the Estate Office.

About the role:

This is an amazing opportunity for an ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified Financial Controller. Working as a senior member of the management team you will be tasked with providing the financial reporting, analytics and insight necessary to support the continued growth of the Estate businesses. This will involve joining various Boards and Committees to help drive forward key plans and objectives for the Estate.

With both strategic and day to day, hands-on involvement, you and your team will be responsible for the day to day running of all the financial aspects of the business including payroll, banking and reconciliations, invoicing, ledgers, stock control, P&L and KPI reporting, VAT including partial exemptions, budgeting, cash flow forecasting, overseeing rent demands and arrears and financial modelling.

Experience Required:

  • Qualification through ACA, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW
  • PQE gained within business / industry
  • Previous proven experience of working as a Financial Controller with responsibility for the hands-on day to day finances of a busy organisation
  • Previous experience of liaising with external tax advisors to ensure compliance
  • Ability to produce multiple financial accounts for Trusts and Companies
  • Proven track record of managing and developing a team
  • Demonstrate a confident and professional manner when dealing with internal and external customers
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office Excel and accounting software such as Sage
  • A "can do" attitude and strong team-working is essential
