Totum Partners are delighted to be working with one of London's oldest law firms, having been established over 250 years ago, which is looking to recruit a Finance Director. With a firm foothold in the high net worth individuals and real estate sectors, the firm has enviable client relationships going back several decades and beyond. They are looking for a Finance Director to join the business. Reporting into the Senior Partner and the firm's management committee, this is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified accountant to be part of the senior management team and take on the position of the most senior member of the finance department as well as the compliance team.
The role's objective is to provide guidance and support to the Partners and firm's senior management team be able to achieve its financial objectives. This includes helping the firm to attain targeted profitability and revenue levels, retain best practice in financial compliance and be able to lead the finance and compliance departments, instilling a hard-working and collegiate culture. Specific responsibilities include managing the firm's cash-flow including providing regular reports and highlighting any potential areas of concern; providing commentary and analysis of financial data regarding profitability and performance at a firm-wide and divisional level; leading the annual budgeting process; preparing the firm's annual financial statements; managing the partnership's tax affairs and partners drawings; recommending appropriate distribution policy for Equity Partners; making suggestions of where process improvements could be made and then leading the associated projects.
There are several key external relationships that the Finance Director will take a lead role in maintaining including the external tax consultants, bankers, accountants and other suppliers to the finance function. This requires high levels of communication and good negotiating skills when necessary. Internally, as well as the Senior Partner and management committee, the Finance Director will work closely with the other business service Directors, lending support where required and taking finance lead on appropriate projects. The Finance Director also plays the part of Finance Business Partner to the firm's Partners and the production and presentation of key information to the fee earning teams alongside suggestions on areas of focus to improve the firm's profitability is a key part of this role. This includes providing support around pricing and related commercially-focused concerns. Additionally, the Finance Director plays an important part in the training, development and mentoring of the finance and compliance team members. Setting annual appraisals and career goals and providing the infrastructure for staff to continue developing their skillsets is an integral part of this position.
Applicants should be qualified accountants who have operated at either Director- or senior management-level in a corporate law firm. Experience of being able to deliver opinion and options at a board level and to come up with feasible and innovative strategies of how to improve financial performance should be demonstrable as should examples of leading strong, effective finance functions.
