Arts University Bournemouth is the leading professional arts university dedicated to turning creativity into careers. Offering courses in art, design, architecture, media and performance, we are passionate about our specialist subjects and dedicated both to education and the creative industries which we serve.
We are looking for a qualified professional (ACA, ACCA, CPFA or CIMA) who can ensure that the financial statements of the Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) get a clean bill of health when reviewed annually by the external auditors.
You will contribute to the development and expansion of AUB with oversight of the capital programme, fixed assets and identifying the related funding requirements through the close management of cash flow.
You will be responsible for the integrity of the financial accounts for the University and its three subsidiaries. Information prepared by the post holder (e.g. in-year predictions) forms the basis for long term financial planning and for financial decision making at all levels of the organisation, but mainly at a senior management and Governors level.
The role demands that the post holder keeps abreast of financial reporting requirements and takes a proactive approach to identifying the areas that require review and recommend the appropriate accounting treatment. You will need to have experience of VAT and a willingness to understand its complexities in an education setting.
In addition you will manage a small team whom maintain the general ledger and support the Student Union in terms of its financial reporting and budget holder requirements.
Excellent communication and writing skills are required to engage with external auditors, statutory inspectors and senior management. You must be able to take change in your stride where it relates to new systems and procedures and ensure that staff can adjust accordingly.
You will have significant and relevant accountancy experience, whether it be preparing accounts or conducting audits. Experience of education would be helpful, but it is recognised that a wider experience also brings with it new ideas and opportunities. This role may be suitable for an individual who wishes to progress to their first management position.
