Financial Controller. Our client, a small but expanding long established SME business, seeks a 'hands-on' part-qualified, qualified or experienced accountant to control all day to day accounting and financial matters.
Job Purpose
Based at its' head office, the Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing accounting and corporate reporting requirements, while also providing organisational and administrative leadership for all financial operations. These responsibilities include implementation of accounting policy, internal and external financial reporting, financial analysis and internal controls and procedures. Working closely with Senior Managers, across all functions of the business, the Financial Controller will be responsible for company expenditure. The role reports directly to the Managing Director.
THE FINANCIAL CONTROLLER WILL BE EXPECTED TO PERFORM ANY OF THE FOLLOWING TASKS:
*Prepare monthly management accounts
*Prepare payrolls
*Cash flow analysis
*Develop forecasting models (P & L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow)
*Review company internal controls
*Annual budgeting
*Preparation of annual statutory accounts
*Preparation of tax computations (Vat and Corporation Tax)
*Oversee all tax and regulatory compliance issues
*Prepare and submit information to statutory authorities including HMRC
*Liaise with external advisors on the preparation of statutory financial information
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective management of the company's finances and authorise expenditure
Liaise with external auditors, pension providers, HMRC and bankers to provide all required information.
Ensure accounting policies comply with the relevant accounting standards and that group policies are followed.
Implement payroll audits
VAT Returns
PAYE
Salaries (Sage)
Profit & Loss & Balance Sheet
Tax compliance including income tax, VAT and corporation tax.
Budgets, forecasts, cash flow and profit share scheme
Vehicle leasing
PERSON SPECIFICATION
QUALITIES OF A SUCCESSFUL FINANCIAL CONTROLLER INCLUDE:
Interpersonal skills sufficient to support, advise and influence managers from different parts of the business whilst providing strong financial control where necessary.
Diligent with strong attention to detail
Up to date knowledge of accounting regulations.
Good understanding of business as well as financial issues
Sound decision making
Strong IT literacy, Microsoft Excel in particular
Proven team player with leadership skills including the ability to coach and energise others
Critical thinker with good analytical skills
Hands-on approach and proven ability to work to deadlines
