Axon Moore are proud to be working in exclusive partnership with Chaucer Foods Group to assist in the recruitment of a Group Financial Controller.

Chaucer Foods Group sell their products in more than 30 countries and are the world’s largest supplier of freeze dried fruits, with a customer base including manufacturers, food service and retail organisations. The business were acquired in the December 2016 by the Nagatanien Group, a Japanese plc.  

Based at Chaucer Foods Group head office, just West of Hull, the Group Financial Controller will manage a local team whilst also working with colleagues across their global manufacturing base.

Reporting into the CFO, the Group Financial Controller will be responsible for:
  • Management and development of the Group Finance Team
  • Consolidation of monthly financial results
  • Development of business wide financial controls, risk management and corporate governance procedures
  • Managing the audit relationship and liaising with external advisers on tax and treasury matters
  • Supporting the CFO on key initiatives such as finance restructuring, M&A projects and systems implementation projects
  • Production of annual Statutory Accounts
  • Ownership of Corporation Tax, PAYE and VAT returns
  • Providing insights and responses to Japanese parent company questions
  • Monitoring bank balances / forecasts and execution of currency hedging strategy
Key experience / skills required:
  • Fully qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with a least 5 years post qualification experience
  • Strong focus on controls and processes and a high attention to detail
  • Up-to-date technical skills including IFRS (FRS102 would be desirable) and confident preparing UK statutory accounts
  • Good UK tax knowledge and the ability to work closely with external advisers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills – you will engage with colleagues across the world on a daily basis and you’ll need to ensure processes and standards are being followed
  • Strong people manager who can evidence prior development of staff
  • Confidence to challenge the regional Finance Directors whilst maintaining a positive working relationship
Importantly the Group Financial Controller will need to grow and develop as Chaucer continues to expand and broaden its portfolio. The business has come a long way in the last 5 years and will be different again in another 5.

The role will offer a basic salary of £80-90,000, plus car allowance, pension and other benefits.
