The Head of Finance Operations Role:

The Superdry brand is a genuine British success story that has grown to a turnover of £872m, £97m profit and a strategic plan in place that will make us a £1bn turnover company by 2020. Our brand is already worth £1.6bn in total global consumer sales. We are a multichannel operator with well-developed and highly successful retail, ecommerce, wholesale and franchise businesses and customers in virtually every country in the world. We are well on our way to achieving our goal of becoming a global digital brand.

Superdry’s incredible growth in recent years means that we are now a substantial global organisation with over 20 businesses operating in multiple countries on three different continents. The financial arrangements that underpin this structure are naturally complex and require expert stewardship in order to ensure that we deliver absolute integrity in our financial position both internally and to investors, and that we are fully compliant with all relevant financial regulations. The role of Head of Finance Operations is pivotal in this, as it leads the transactional finance areas of the company, which are credit control, accounts payable and cash & banking.

Reporting to the CFO and working closely alongside the senior members of the Group Finance team, we are seeking a technically up-to-date, qualified accountant with experience earned in a large international business that includes the management of transactional processing teams. The Head of Finance Operations role will sit as a member of the Finance Senior Leadership Team.

The Head of Finance Operations Will:

  • Have overall responsibility for transactional processing across the three departments of Credit Control, Accounts Payable and Cash & Banking.
  • Have management responsibility for all teams and colleagues within those areas, via the team managers of each function.
  • Be responsible for governance within those departments and internal/external reporting on transactional performance.
  • Drive process improvements across the three departments, focusing on the efficiency and effectiveness of processes.
  • Be responsible for all KPI setting and reporting.
  • Review all systems used in the transactional processing space, recommending and driving systems improvements where required.
  • Act as the focal point for transactional service delivery to the rest of the Finance Team and Heads of Department across the wider business.
  • Be the key point of contact around transactional services from an external audit perspective.

Additionally, for each of the specific functions:

  • Credit Control - be responsible for the management of debtor balances, overdue accounts and cash collections.
  • Credit Control - sit as a member of the Credit Committee.
  • Accounts Payable - be responsible for the overall management of Payables including cash payments.
  • Accounts Payable - manage the semi-annual reporting of Payment Practices for UK Superdry entities.
  • Cash & Banking - Focus on the efficiency and effectiveness of cash and banking recording/reconciliation and reporting and the linkages to the other transactional processing teams.

The Head of Finance Operations is:

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or ACMA), technically up-to-date, with substantial post qualification experience.
  • Highly experienced in senior leadership roles within the transactional finance arena, with a strong background in the credit control, accounts payable and cash & banking areas.
  • Technically capable with deep knowledge of the processes, methods, rules and regulations in these areas.
  • Ideally experienced in working internationally, as we currently have businesses in over 20 countries and we need someone familiar with this kind of work.
  • Preferably experienced in working for a plc, and within the retail or consumer goods sectors, but neither are essential. We’re happy to consider people from different market sectors who meet the criteria.
  • Meticulous and take personal pride in your work, instilling this approach throughout your teams, striving to run a department that produces high quality work.
  • An experienced and successful leader of people, with the ability to motivate, drive, guide, develop and shape a diverse team of people into a well-run, energetic and high achieving function. You’ll lead by example, want to be hands-on and take your teams with you, and care deeply about both their performance and well-being.
  • A strong communicator able to present confidently to senior level decision makers.
  • A highly organised, diligent person with exceptional attention to detail.
  • A team player able to work effectively and collaboratively with the Group Finance team members.
  • Passionate, driven, high energy, resilient, and have an approach that embraces change, and an unflappable nature that helps you stay calm and functioning in challenging times.
  • Located within daily commuting distance of our Cheltenham head office, or prepared to relocate.
