The largest Inflight Catering, On-board Retail and Logistics Company in the UK is looking to add an experienced Financial Controller in Manchester to their finance function. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this person will lead and oversee all activities across an established team in tax, management accounting and financial reporting.

As a critical new hire this Financial Controller will drive improvement in accuracy and timeliness in management reporting and external financial reporting whilst proactively introducing system and process improvements.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Involved in the supervision and management of general accounting activities, analyses and the maintenance of effective internal controls while ensuring statutory compliance in all accounting initiatives.
  • Supervises end-of-period processes and supports the analysis of the periodical business performance, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Lead the accounting department in the establishment of risk management procedures as well as the update of those procedures.
  • Play a leading role in creating and enhancing financial policies and procedures across the accounting department as well as the wider Finance department. Ensures that there is consistency in procedures and policies across the accounting department and that these policies are appropriately set for the achievement of the business’s overall goals and objectives.
  • Leads compliance with the business’s internal corporate framework policies and finance manuals.
  • Liaises with the wider senior finance department in deciding on processes, and procedures to apply in the department and across the entire business.
  • Develops reports on all accounting related matters inclusive of taxation matters. These reports accompany pro-active advice and recommendations on the business’s financial approaches from an accounting and taxation perspective.
  • Leads the accounting department in the preparation of accounts and conducting annual auditing and the final preparation of accounts. Also lead the preparation and monitoring the business’s annual budgets and liaises with external auditors to drive improvement in process and efficiency.
  • Carries out proactive engagement across the accounting department in implementing audit findings with a view of improving the business’s overall financial performance and control environment.
  • Collaborates with external partners such as tax accounting firm personnel, auditors, and in all matter regarding auditing and taxation.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with a proven track record of working in a Financial Controller. Understanding and experience of recent IFRS changes along with SAP experience is required to information.
