Job description

FD Unlimited is supporting a growing and highly entrepreneurial London based Commercial Law firm.

The business was established in 2002 and has a unique structure allowing it to have an experienced network of solicitors across the UK providing a first rate legal service at a reasonable cost. The Company focuses on 10 core practice areas including Commercial Property, Corporate Tax, In-house Legal, IP, Technology, Media, and General Commercial.

In line with strong opportunity for growth in 2010, our client has a need to recruit a part-time Finance Director/Group Controller for a 4–6 week period; week 1 and 2 on a full-time basis, with week 3 onwards reducing down to 2 or 3 days/week(an assignment potentially to be extended). The aim is to improve the efficiency of dealing with a higher volume of fee notes, invoices, expenses and data transactions, which will be underpinned by the process to upgrade the internal accounting systems. Managing the complexity of accounting will be a challenge as the firm grows and making sure each transaction is calculated and distributed automatically will make the back office function run more smoothly, which in turn will provide a solid platform for the next phase of growth. The process to upgrade the accounting systems, processes and protocols has already started and our Client would like an experienced finance professional to corroborate and challenge their current plans.

The ideal candidate will have reviewed and reported on existing accounting system set ups, and have made recommendations for improvement. Successful candidates will have previously designed, project managed and implemented a system. A good knowledge of systems and the application of features to manage business requirements is key. The chosen candidate will have had previous experience of working as a finance professional within a law firm and will appreciate the need to comply with SAR. Applicants should understand a law firm’s purpose and mentality and be a process oriented finance professional who thrives in a challenging environment.

Experience of working in an SME environment is vital. Hands-on and hard working, successful candidates will possess excellent presentation and communication skills, and will able to work with the MD, Commercial Director, and the members of the Finance team.

Salary: £400 and £700 day
Start Date: March 2010 – as soon as possible
