Job description

Our client is a highly successful niche independent Retailer. The business, which has stores across the UK, is in the midst of a programme of new store openings, while experiencing strong like for like sales growth in existing stores. As well as operating through a chain of retail outlets, the business also operates a successful online retail offering through 2 transactional websites. A hands-on Head of Finance is now required to provide commercial finance support to the Divisional Managing Director, producing relevant daily/weekly/monthly KPIs and analysis through which to drive commercial performance of the store portfolio, the product ranges and to maintain tight control over profit margins. Reporting directly to the Divisional Managing Director and the Group Chairman (owner), you will be responsible for the full range of financial management duties for the retail division including managing a team of 6, evaluating and preparing business plans for new store openings, maintaining tight stock control procedures, and ad hoc projects. A key skill will be your ability to analyse and identify trends in profitability across the stores and product ranges and to take such actions as are necessary to drive profitability and preserve/improve profit margins. Ideally you will either have experience in a multi-site retail business, or experience in a multi-site business involving the sale of products (as opposed to services eg a trade counter type business).
