Job description
A Local Government organisation in Essex is looking for a short term interim Head of Internal Audit. This role is a short term part-time (2 - 3 days a week) opportunity to cover for sickness until the year end. The main purpose of the role is: to effectively lead, manage and develop the audit & governance team; to ensure sound and effective corporate governance from a financial perspective; to be the Lead Officer for audit and governance arrangements; to develop and implement the council’s procurement strategy and provide an efficient and cost effective procurement and payment. This role includes managing a team - 2 in insurance, 2 in procurement and 2 in Accounts payable - as well as responsible for contract management for internal audit services and the relationship with external audit. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Accountant, with experience in Local Government audit as well as staff management. A commercial awareness around contracts and procurement is an asset. It is likely this role is 2 - 3 days a week, for approximately 2 months, and they need an immediate start.
