Graduates 'should assess potential employers'

19 November 2008 In Graduates

Graduates entering the accountancy workforce in the coming months may have to think carefully about which type of company they apply for work in, based on how they believe the organisation will weather the financial storm.

The current economic crisis has been widely predicted to bring with it a recession in 2009, and industry analysts Plimsoll recently estimated accountancy firms could see falls in revenue of as much as 30 per cent.

"Companies need to act now, if they are going to weather this storm," explained Plimsoll senior analyst David Pattison.

"What we have been able to show in our work is that failure is avoidable, as long as the necessary changes are implemented without delay."

Graduates entering the accountancy sector will need to assess the standing of the companies they apply for if they are to reduce the risk of being the last one in and first one out next year.
