Experts: 2:2s fine for most graduate jobs

05 September 2008 In Graduates

Most graduate jobs only require candidates to have a 2:2, one industry expert has claimed.

Writing in the Independent, careers advisor Caroline Haydon told one graduate with a 2:2 in politics and history at Brunel University that it was vital they did not want to "sound apologetic" about the class of their degree when appling for jobs.

The expert stressed that it was "still a good classification, in demanding subjects, from a good university".

What's more, Ms Haydon added that a 2:2 would "do just fine" for most graduate jobs.

However, she pointed out: "If you are keen on a career where a 2:1 or above is a prerequisite, then you might want to consider getting some related work experience at a lower entry level and working your way up the ladder.

"Employers look at the whole person, not just the degree - if you worked part-time during university, had positions of responsibility, or devoted time and energy to a particular activity, you may find that this will improve your employment prospects considerably."

What's more, the expert said that the classification of a degree was unlikely to prove important after "you have shown what you are capable of in the work place".ADNFCR-868-ID-18765935-ADNFCR
