The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has introduced a new brand mark in what it describes as "the first significant change to its corporate identity in over 50 years".

Combining elements from its coat of arms with a contemporary style, the new mark still features the female figure of Economia but no longer includes the scales of justice. Economia holds the rod representing command and the dividers representing accurate measurement.

"In moving on from our old identity to the new, we wanted to build on the strengths of our heritage and at the same time create a modern, more flexible and distinctive style," said the ICAEW's chief executive, Michael Izza.

The revamped logo was designed following consultations with members of the institute, district societies and staff.

A new tagline, 'inspiring confidence', has also been created and Mr Izza believes the new brand will develop the institute's reputation across the globe.

"Our brand describes the role that we and our members play in the international community, setting out the values which we aspire to as a professional body," he continued. "Together they will assist us in the execution of our strategy in the years ahead."

Further details about the institute's new corporate identity and guidance for members are available on its website.

The ICAEW is the largest accountancy body in England and Wales and has more than 125,000 members. It was established in 1880 by Royal Charter.
