Leading accountancy firm KPMG has been awarded the top "Three Star Status" in the Best Companies Accreditation Scheme for the second year in a row.
The scheme rewards those companies with organisational excellence in the area of employee engagement and uses a similar system to the Michelin guide to restaurants, where three stars represents an outstanding performer.
Developed by the firm that compiles the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list, Best Companies, the accreditation bestows a good standard for the quality of organisations.
This year, KPMG was the only Big 4 accountancy firm that managed to achieve three star status, with PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte and Ernst & Young all receiving two stars. Across the UK, only 42 organisations received the coveted three star status.
'Outstanding achievement'
"KPMG 2007 accreditation is an outstanding achievement," said Best Companies chief executive Jonathan Austin. "It confirms their commitment to the ongoing journey of workplace engagement. Our role is to set a rigorous benchmark so that organisations can become better employers."
KPMG was also recently named one of the best employers for gay people in the UK.
Gay rights campaign group Stonewall produced a Workplace Equality Index, which placed KPMG eighth. It was the only Big 4 firm to make the top 50.
