More and more students are planning on getting jobs to help them fund their time at university, a new report has suggested.

NatWest's fifth annual Student Living Index showed that around four in ten students already know that they will have to generate cash by working while at university if they hope to avoid large levels of debt.

Overall, students will earn £2 billion though part-time jobs. However, the research warned that the total cost of living bill faced by UK undergraduates has jumped £500 million to £10.8 billion.

Interestingly, students in Belfast and Dundee were shown to be the most likely to get a job while studying.

Mark Worthington, head of student banking at NatWest, commented: "Students are increasingly aware of the wider economic climate and this is filtering down into their decisions when they are choosing their university, and also when deciding whether to take a part-time job during term time."

Recently, it was revealed that students typically took £6,000 worth of things with them to university.ADNFCR-868-ID-18716817-ADNFCR
