Accountancy job market 'remains strong' The job market for accountants has remained strong, according to new statistics.

Data from ECHM shows that the accountancy industry is still looking for recruits, with a number of firms stating now is an ideal time to look for high calibre talent, reports Director of Finance Online.

Speaking to the news provider, Kirsten MacLeod, operations director with the company, said: "A number of smaller companies and firms are taking advantage of the reduced competition from larger players and viewing the situation as an ideal opportunity to secure high calibre accountants."

However, despite high demand, basic salaries for accountants have not increased the firm's report showed, with newly qualified individuals in London expecting circa £40,000 to £48,000 compared with between £38,000 and £45,000 last year.

Meanwhile, research by Deloitte recently highlighted that three-quarters of finance directors are planning to redefine their traditional roles by tackling strategic business issues over the next 18 months.
