Social care urged to improve graduate recruitment schemes Some sectors of the UK economy need to come up with better ways of attracting the best graduates, one industry expert has said.

In an interview with Personnel Today, Moira Brown, the HR director at Care South, said that there was a need for more graduates to consider a career in social care if the sector was to thrive in the future.

She suggested that 2.5 million social care workers would be needed by 2025, making it vital the sector considered the best ways to attract graduate candidates.

"I don't think graduates see social care as a career opportunity," Ms Brown explained to the site.

"We've also got an ageing population, so where is that workforce going to come from? It's not so much a skills shortage, as a people shortage.

"We need to be innovative in recruiting more people. I wouldn't say 'no' to a graduate scheme, it is something I am considering bringing in."

Recently, reports suggested that the sectors which traditionally offered the most graduate recruitment schemes - such as legal and financial services firms - have been hit by the credit crunch and so have slashed recruitment drives.ADNFCR-868-ID-18744938-ADNFCR
