Tin of soup forces emergency landing An airline operator could be forced to compensate passengers after an unfortunate in-flight incident resulted in a plane making an unscheduled landing.

The Ryanair plane was travelling between Budapest and Dublin when the incident occurred, forcing pilots to land at Frankfurt's Hahn Airport.

A jar of mushroom soup in an overhead locker leaked during the flight.

The contents of the jar then dripped from the lockers onto a passenger who suffers from an extreme allergic reaction to mushroom soup.

After the passenger's neck swelled up and he began to struggle with breathing, the pilots made an emergency landing in Germany so medical help could be received.

A Ryanair spokeswoman said the jar contained a "vegetable oil/mushroom soup type of substance".

"It is procedure when a passenger requires medical attention to divert to the nearest airport. The cabin crew and pilot take that decision," she added.

A Boeing 737-800 flight between Croatia and Gatwick recently made an emergency landing after an on-board microwave caught fire.
