Graduates 'would do better if they had more leadership skills' It would be very useful if university leavers entering graduate recruitment schemes already had some leadership skills, two industry experts have said.

Lush's Lisa Titcomb and Liz Bennett explained that leadership skills were vital to the workplace, but added that they found that many graduates did not possess the right abilities straight out of education.

The pair said that retailers in particular would appreciate graduates with better leadership skills.

"We would definitely appreciate more time being spent on leadership in education," they explained.

"We focus heavily on this in our training, so it'd be highly advantageous if staff already had an idea or the skills in place."

Despite this, Ms Titcomb and Ms Bennett said that they had not really found that graduates came to the company with the right transferable skills needed for the workplace.

Recently, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said that it had found that many graduates leave university without leadership skills.

It said that businesses running graduate training schemes needed to make sure they used feedback to help young people develop these skills as quickly as possible.ADNFCR-868-ID-18759794-ADNFCR
