Law firm looks to standardise training for new grads A leading international law firm has revealed that it has signed an agreement with the College of Law to provide training for people on its graduate recruitment schemes.

Legal Week reported that Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton’s City arm said that it would use the college to provide Graduate Diploma in Law, the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and the Professional Skills Course (PSC) for potential trainees.

In September next year, the firm will send 12 of its future trainees to the college for the LPC.

It is the first time the firm has signed an exclusive deal with the College of Law to provide three stages of training. While students will be able to attend courses at any of the college's centres around the UK, the recruits are expected to use the Moorgate facility - where the LPC and PSC electives will be taught in firm-specific groups.

Shaun Goodman, graduate recruitment partner at Cleary, told Legal Week: "We found our trainees were arriving with different levels of knowledge and took the view that doing all three courses through a single provider would let us remove duplication and also better tailor our own internal training."

Nigel Savage, chief executive of the college, added to the publication: "This is an exciting development for us and reinforces the profession’s move to customised training. Ensuring relevance to the workplace is at the heart of what we do."ADNFCR-868-ID-18764118-ADNFCR
