Another voice has been added to the debate over whether or not graduates are likely to suffer throughout 2009 as a result of the financial downturn.
Until now there had been fears that graduate jobs will dry up in the face of the financial downturn but one commentator has suggested that in a contracting jobs market, graduates will do better than others.
Speaking to the Guardian, Danielle Grufferty, president of Liverpool's Guild of Students, suggested that a university certificate could be the key to securing a job in defiance of the market.
"With the economic downturn, there will be an even greater focus on those who attend university, as the market concentrates on graduates to become its future leaders," she explained.
The prospects for 2009 have been varying, and the Bank of England's decision to lower rates may well limit the effects of a recession, but having a degree will almost certainly lend itself in a jobseeker's favour.
