A binman who found an estimated £10,000 in shredded £10 and £20 notes has been told he can claim the cash if he can piece the bits back together.
The BBC reports that Graham Hill discovered the money in two bin bags dumped in City Square, Lincoln six months ago.
Lincolnshire police have investigated but as no one has come forward to claim it, it has been returned to Mr Hill, who can get a new note for each one he can piece back together.
However, this could prove difficult as the largest shred is only an inch square.
Detective constable Nick Cobb said: "It would appear that they might have been cut up with scissors.
"Obviously whoever cut it up took a long time, a very, very determined effort to cut the money up."
Meanwhile, a smuggler was chased by police cars while trying to cross Romania's northern border with nearly 100,000 packets of cigarettes on a horse-drawn cart.
Janos Jakab was swiftly arrested and a police spokesman said that the case was an exception to the usually sophisticated methods employed by smugglers.
