E&Y lands Islamic finance award

E&Y lands Islamic finance award Big Four accountancy practice Ernst & Young has been praised for its Islamic financial services.

E&Y's Islamic Financial Services Group (IFSG) was given the Best Islamic Finance Advisory Firm Award for 2006 by Islamic Finance News.

The group specifically deals with Islamic financial organisations that require special Islamic banking advice, including building operational frameworks and strategy development.

The prize was accepted by IFSG head Sameer Abji at a ceremony at Dubai's Shangri-La Hotel on March 12th.

Ahmed Adil of Ernst & Young Bahrain commented: "The ongoing professionalism and commitment of our IFSG continues to shine through.

"We are very proud of the quality of their work, their dedication and their achievements over the past two years."

Meanwhile, finance professionals welcomed Gordon Brown's move to enhance Islamic finance products in the UK.

Deloitte's Peter Muir said that the chancellor's reforms, which even the playing field in terms of Sukuk taxation, "should be applauded".
