Accountancy graduates entering the job market during the predicted recession in 2009 will no doubt be concerned about the state of graduate recruitment but there are many reasons to remain positive, it has been suggested.
Most analysts have predicted only a one per cent fall in the number of job offers made to graduates in 2009, suggesting that flexible graduates will no doubt be able to avoid the cut in recruitment levels.
And there are of course areas which enjoy a boom as a result of any economic downturn, and fortunately for accountancy graduates, the accountancy sector is one such area.
Speaking about the rising salaries of accountants over the past year Louise Campbell, managing director Ireland at Robert Walters, said: "The cost of acquiring talent is ever increasing.
"We have seen many challenges such as candidates entertaining multiple job offers and an increase in buyback situations."
Accountancy graduate recruitment has become increasingly sophisticated in recent years and those companies scouting for future managerial positions are unlikely to cut recruitment in the coming year.
