SEC names James L Kroeker as acting chief accountant The US Securities and Exchange Commission has announced the appointment of James L Kroeker as acting chief accountant.

Mr Kroeker, who joined the organisation from Deloitte, has been deputy chief accountant since February 2007 and will replace Conrad W Hewitt, who is retiring.

In his new role, he is to oversee accounting interpretations, international accounting matters and professional practice issues.

Chairman Christopher Cox said: "Jim Kroeker has consistently set high standards for achievement and excellence within the office of chief accountant.

"His leadership, expertise and judgment have been extraordinarily valuable assets for investors, our capital markets and the agency."

Mr Kroeker's recent work has included serving as staff director of the SEC's congress-mandated study of fair value accounting standards and leading the organisation's efforts to improve off-balance sheet accounting guidelines.

In related news, PricewaterhouseCoopers has announced the acquisition of the executive remuneration business of Halliwell Consulting.

The move will see ten staff members join the Big 4 firm this month.
