Accountancy graduates could take optimism from IT The current economic downturn has led to an increase in demand for IT jobs, according to research from ITjobsforgraduates.com.

As the recession continues in the UK a rise in demand for safer jobs in the public sector has already been noted among graduates, but the recent rise in demand for IT positions is thought to come from the notion that the IT sector is sheltered somewhat from the recession.

Teresa Sperti, head of marketing at IT Jobs for Graduates, said: "I believe that many of today's college leavers see greater chance of employment within the IT sector, particularly in light of the current economic climate. And this presents a real opportunity for the sector to bring in and nurture new talent."

Sixty one per cent of graduates currently expect to find a job which pays between £18,000 and £26,000, offering a refreshing dose of optimism in the current gloom of the jobs market.

Accountancy graduates aware of the benefits of being flexible can also look confidently to the future as there will also be a number of areas in which demand for insolvency accountants will grow this year, offering a chance of employment to those planning on graduating in 2009.
