Accountancy graduates hoping to find work this year despite the ongoing recession could find that an internship performed during their time at university is now more valuable than ever before, a Times report has indicated.
While commentators suggest that the number of vacancies on offer this year may not fall as much as previously thought, employers will certainly be on the look out for the most valuable applicants, and so promoting an internship can do much to boost the chances of securing a job.
Future graduates who still have the time to take an internship have been advised to do so by Heather Collier, director of the National Council for Work Experience, who also added that many companies will be paying a living wage while students are working for them.
"My advice is not to wait until the penultimate year of a degree to apply for work experience. Try to get work in your first year, which will give you an advantage when looking for internships in the second year," said Ms Collier.
