Exam nerves 'can be avoided through positive thinking' Students sitting their accountancy exams this summer could be interested in a range of tips which have been offered by an expert.

Hypnotherapist and author Lorna Cordwell offered the advice to the Times' SchoolGate blog, commenting it is important to get the balance right between healthy motivation levels and stress.

She suggests using visualisation techniques can help increase assurance and confidence.

Reviewing thought patterns can be crucial –understanding the reasons for fears and anxieties means they can be scrutinised and avoided.

Breathing exercises might also be good, Ms Cordwell comments.

"Take a short breath in through your nose and then let it out long and slow through your mouth with a sigh. Do this a few times. Keep the out-breath nice and long," she advises.

Following her guidance can lead to a growth in confidence, meaning a candidate is ready to "accept and embrace" the challenge ahead, Ms Cordwell concludes.

Ofqual exams doctor George Turnbull – writing for BBC News - recently asserted eating a healthy breakfast and time-management skills are among the key factors to consider when sitting a test.ADNFCR-868-ID-19169224-ADNFCR
