Graduates who may have excellent academic records might not possess the communication skills needed to get through an interview successfully, it has been claimed.
David Baker is the managing director of Evolutions UK and said in his 15 years in the sector he has seen intelligent people overlooked because they do not have the tools to influence decision-makers and clinch a job.
Having excellent grades does not necessarily mean they can be conveyed well in this part of the application process, he added.
"Interview success depends on personality, professionalism and the ability to describe how your skills would apply to the particular role," Mr Baker continued, going on to say that those who are focused completely on their studies are "more than likely" to be inexperienced in this aspect.
According to Evolution UK, this summer will see 300,000 graduates applying for 30,000 jobs.
Recent comments from the Institute for Employment Studies said jobseekers may have to lower their expectations due to the current financial climate.
