Students 'should apply to charities for work' Students looking for a temporary summer job to help finance their course have been encouraged to apply to charities.

Commenting on the news that the National Union of Students (NUS) has stepped in to help its members find employment, WorkwiseUK.org chief executive Phil Flaxton said there are paths that are a little out of the ordinary.

"[The charity sector] can't afford to employ these people on a full time basis [and] they don't pay particularly big salaries, but they will take people on for a short term - one or two months - at a reasonable daily rate," he said.

Mr Flaxton added those with IT skills were "always in demand" and graduates or students could take advantage of remote working opportunities to make the most of their skills and situation.

The NUS suggested its members seek work that will pay enough to last them beyond the summer as this would make university life easier.
