Accountants at mid-sized firms are confident about the security of their position, according to a new study.
A poll of 600 members and students affiliated to the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) found that 80 per cent of them are confident they will keep their jobs, despite the recession.
The study also found that 83 per cent of mid-sized businesses expect to survive the recession.
However, the survey did reveal that times are tough, with the majority of companies experiencing a fall of more than ten per cent in either sales, turnover or net profits in the last 12 months.
Ray Perry, director of brand at CIMA, explained that firms are struggling to bring plans to fruition.
He said: "Despite optimistic cash flow trends, ongoing decreases in areas like headcount and net profits are making it difficult for these companies to drive things forward at the speed they would like to."
Recently, CIMA urged large businesses to conduct stress tests to identify any potential risks in their strategies.
