Students 'should not cut back on auto maintenance' Students struggling to make ends meet should refrain from cutting back on maintenance work for their car, it has been asserted.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) pointed out many people are looking for ways to cut their expenditure, but suggested vehicle repairs should not be one of those options.

According to technical services manager at the body Steve Foulsham, MOTs and other essentials should not be neglected, as this may affect the auto's cover.

"Whatever you do, don't cut [back] on the maintenance of your vehicle," he asserted. "Obviously an insurance policy can only operate within the law."

The comments come after Biba released statistics showing 23 per cent of its members have seen customers downscale on their cover.

Meanwhile, it revealed 96 per cent had noticed that motor and home insurance were the worst affected parts of their business.

Recent research from Mintel found over three in four (77 per cent) now shop around for auto insurance.ADNFCR-868-ID-19248285-ADNFCR
