Graduates given cause for optimism Accountancy graduates have been given cause for optimism by comments from a financial recruitment expert.

Joslin Rowe spokeswoman Belinda Walmsley told the Wharf that there has been around two and a half months of continuous growth in the sector.

"Confidence is increasing," she said. "We've seen about a 30 per cent rise in premium job vacancies over the last month."

The specialist added more people are returning to the market as time passes by, with jobseekers gaining in confidence again.

Ms Walmsley explained the six months to March 2009 were tough for the sector, but suggested the worst is now over.

She pointed to the fact that around three-quarters of accountancy staff at the beginning of the year had been either made redundant or faced the axe as a sign as how bad things had become.

However, the expert asserted around 41 per cent of employees can now consider their position secure.

Meanwhile, with some graduates taking on work experience roles while looking for work, an Association of Graduate Career Advisory Services spokesperson suggested they should be careful to avoid being exploited.
