PwC: More outsourcing needed in public sector The public sector needs to use outsourcing to a greater degree, according to a new survey from Big 4 firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

A survey by the firm showed that two-thirds of respondents thought that outsourcing helps the public sector reach its goals with greater efficiency.

And 87 per cent reported satisfaction with the financial strength provided by the private sector and two-thirds of respondents also believed that they had the correct relationship with their service provider.

Roger de Montfort, a partner at PwC, said: "There are some interesting learnings for the public sector to ensure that the benefits of outsourcing are maximised, both in the future and in contracts currently in operation."

Public sector contractors should concentrate on improving planning in the time before the actual signing of the contract and should construct relationships with their providers, added Mr de Montfort.

Meanwhile, PwC has found fault with Swansea City Council's £83 million outsourcing deal.

A PwC audit found that the council failed to apply important principles of IT management in the deal, reports Computer Weekly.
