Students work over festive break

Students faced with having to work over the Christmas holidays should not lose heart as they are not alone, it has been claimed.

According to research from Studentgems.com,82 per cent of those attending university will work over the festive break rather than relaxing with friends and family.

Of those who are set to give up their holidays to earn some cash, 16 per cent expect to carry out a Christmas Day shift of three hours or more.

One in five students work in bars and clubs and some may decide to work on Boxing Day, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve as well as Christmas Day due to the extra income they can make.

Meanwhile a fifth (22 per cent) will ply their trade in retail, while 17 per cent will carry out work in factories over the break.

The vast majority (93 per cent) explained that their festive job is not related to their chosen career and is more to do with avoiding debt.

Meanwhile, the Association of Graduate Recruiters recently explained that now is the best time for students and former students to apply for graduate roles.ADNFCR-868-ID-19479908-ADNFCR
