'Less than half' of accountants happy Only 49 per cent of finance workers say they are happy in their jobs, according to the latest Happiness at Work Index released by recruiting specialist Badenoch & Clark.

This is in comparison to lawyers, two-thirds of which say they are happy at work, the index found.

Almost a quarter of the UK's workforce are not happy at work, with IT and telecoms professionals being the most miserable.

Nick Eaves, executive director of Badenoch & Clark, said: "In a ferocious market for talented finance professionals, many employers continue to take major risks with their most precious asset.

"Knowledge and talent heads for the 'out' door as less than half of the UK's finance workers consider themselves happy at work."

The happiest workers in Britain are Gemini women lawyers working in Bristol for a female boss, who travel to work by car and that are allowed to wear casual business clothes.

IT workers in Manchester were gauged by the index to be the most unhappy workers in Britain.

This week saw the annual Work Wise UK summit held in London debating the adoption of better working practices.
