Mathematics a 'key skill' in employment arena Accountancy graduates may be interested to hear that an education campaigner has suggested that strong mathematics skills are highly valued in the employment arena.

With many graduates seeking their first major role, it may be encouraging to hear that one of their skills is sought-after.

According to Campaign for Science and Engineering assistant director Hilary Leevers, "mathematical knowledge is essential" for careers in the sciences.

"Maths is a core skill and one that employers highly value. So in driving up mathematical standards in the sciences, you are actually helping the general employability skill," she explained.

Her comments come after regulators Ofqual, DCells and Ccea suggested that maths will become even more important to passing exams throughout students' educational careers.

Changes to criteria for such tests have been altered at GCSE level following an Ofqual report, which could mean future graduates have a better grasp of the subject than some current university leavers.ADNFCR-868-ID-19501791-ADNFCR
