Iain Cornish has been appointed as the Financial Services Authority's (FSA's) new chairman of the Practitioner Panel.
Currently in the role is Nick Prettejohn, who will finish his two-year term as chairman. Mr Cornish will also be in the position for two years.
In addition to having held a variety of senior management positions, Mr Cornish has also been a member of the Financial Services Practitioner Panel since March 2007.
He was previously chief executive of Yorkshire Building Society, a role which he has held since July 2003.
"The Practitioner Panel provides the FSA with a senior industry sounding board which is extremely valuable in ensuring we take firms' interests into account," FSA chairman Adair Turner said.
Mr Cornish aims to provide a "constructive industry voice" on the central issues of FSA policy making.
There are 12 members of the Practitioner Panel at present. The statutory body was founded to represent regulated companies and the interests of practitioners within the regulatory framework.
