
Capital markets expert John Crompton has announced his resignation from UK Financial Investments (UKFI).
The financier, who joined the organisation in December 2008, plans to return to the private sector once he leaves the company.
Whilst at UKFI Mr Crompton was responsible for selling down the taxpayers' 43 per cent stake in Lloyds Banking Group 84 per cent stake in Royal Bank of Scotland.
Prior to Robin Budenberg replacing John Kingman as chief executive, Mr Crompton had also been in the running for the role.
Speaking of his time at the organisation, he said that it had offered him a "unique opportunity" to combine his capital markets and previous Treasury experience to contribute to the government's response to the financial crisis.
Before joining UKFI, Mr Crompton working as managing director and head of equity capital markets for EMEA at Merrill Lynch. He also worked in various roles at Morgan Stanley, which he joined in 1986.
