Recruitment in the accountancy sector returns Businesses in the UK are starting to recruit accountancy professionals again, it has been claimed.

According to a new study from Badenoch & Clark, pay freezes and recruitment moratoriums in the accountancy sector could be consigned to the history books as the economy starts to pick up.

The firm claims that more than a fifth of employers were looking to fill accounting jobs, saying that they currently lack employees with the skills they need to meet growth targets in the coming financial year.

More than half said that they are planning to offer their existing workers pay rises in 2010.

Speaking to City AM, Jason Peters, who is starting work with a leading City bank in March, said: "Market activity is definitely picking up.

Compared to last year, I saw more vacancies and received more calls from recruiters, and if companies want the best talent they will have to pay accordingly."

His comments follow on from research conducted by KPMG, which showed that the number of job placements in the UK financial services sector is on the increase.
