Spanish banking group Santander has announced plans to step up its efforts to attract top talent to a number of new graduate finance jobs.
The group, which is currently working to enhance its brand on the UK high street, has confirmed that it is to take on 230 new graduates in 2010, signalling that prospects are starting to look up again in the finance and accounting jobs sectors after a tough couple of years.
In addition to Santander's accelerated entry programme, which gives graduates the ability to focus on one role in particular, candidates are also to be given the chance to apply for a more general recruitment scheme, though common to all the varied roles on offer is the fact that those happy to take part in the company's community programme are likely to be favoured.
Announcing the news, HR director Simon Lloyd said: "The uplift in the number of graduates we are taking on demonstrates the strength of the Santander approach to banking.
"We see our investment in graduates as an important step on the road to becoming the best commercial bank in the UK."
This comes as PricewaterhouseCoopers is also set to boost its recruitment efforts in Scotland, with as many as 25 top accountancy jobs on offer over the coming weeks.
