According to the Financial Times, the organisations' investment banking arm now refers to the annual round of managing director promotions as partnership promotions.
More power will be given to partners in Barclays Capital regarding the firm's overall strategy. The company's profitability will also be more closely aligned with partners' pay.
One senior executive told the paper: "The real challenge now is the build-out in equities and investment banking. We want to be top three in those businesses globally within three years."
Senior bankers at the firm also believe they have been successful in incorporating and keeping hold of Lehman staff in the US.
John Varley and Bob Diamond, bosses at Barclays, recently waived their bonuses for last year to try and calm public anger regarding bankers' pay.
