Big 4 firm
KPMG has partnered with
Durham University and the
ICAEW to implement a pioneering scheme for aspiring accountants.
The innovative proposal is for a six-year programme that combines a degree with a professional chartered accountancy
qualification from the ICAEW.
The 75 students admitted on the course at Durham University would graduate with a BSc Accounting degree, and be recognised as fully-qualified chartered
accountants with the ACA qualification.
In addition, KPMG will fully cover student’s university and tuition fees, pay participants a salary over the course of the six years, guaranteeing a £20,000 per annum London starting salary.
KPMG’s UK Head of Audit Oliver Tant commented “One of the key things is to ensure fair access to the profession by ensuring the greatest number of young people possible go to university – and also have the potential to train as an accountant.”
ICAEW Chief Executive Michael Izza said: “We have been working hard to remove the barriers for those from disadvantaged backgrounds wanting to get into accountancy.”
The scheme will be rolled out from September 2011.
