Job market mobile but finance professionals still prefer jobs in the City

Over half of City finance professionals are looking to switch jobs in 2011, according to the latest industry figures.

This could be down to a number of factors: higher taxes on current earnings, fewer bonuses or incentives for long-serving employees at their current company, and the creation of new, well-rewarded City opportunities at rival firms and financial institutions.

Savvy companies who are looking to nurture staff loyalty or poach top talent from other firms have started to significantly increase both salary and bonus levels. This has created a swing towards employees, where financial jobseekers are calling the shots.

Despite the number of people looking to switch jobs, London remains a global financial centre for top talent. When asked about overseas opportunities, 52 per cent said they would prefer to advance their financial careers in the UK, as opposed to popular international financial hubs like Hong Kong and Singapore.
